Following the route of the eye, we see the logo for the magazine. That main logo is the x-factor logo which is recognised by anyone that knows of the x-factor, this would immediately draw in the attention of a potential audience because people that are in to the x-factor will want to know the latest gossip. You also see the main image of Katie, who is a current contestant at the time of the printing of the magazine; this would also draw an audience because if people are supporting Katie they will want to read her story. Finally in the route of the eye you see smaller images, these are of previous bands that were once contestants or have appeared on the show. The Principle of thirds shows three clear sections on the cover, the mast head, the main storyline and the smaller stories in rows going across.
This magazine is going to appeal to anyone who likes the xfactor, which tends to be teenage girls or families that sit down and watch the program all together. By using images of the contestants and past contestants (JLS in this case) is makes them want to know more about what they have been getting up to and what their lives have been like since leaving the X-Factor.
The fonts on this cover are very bold but basic, this makes the text very easy to read, which potential buyers expect because they want to be able to read the main articles at a glance when looking at the magazines on the shelf. The font also tames the colour scheme down. Because the colour scheme is quite a mix of colour, the simple font makes the cover easier to read. The colour scheme used is, black, green, white, pink and yellow. All of these colours emphasise certain parts of the cover.
The main article is about Katie. The use of a dominating image of Katie would sway people who are fans of her to read article. The image is very large compared to the text and is situated just off centre of the entire double page, a second image overlaps the bottom left hand corner. Both pictures have captions to explain what each image is showing.
The main text is arranged around the images in columns, making the text easier to read. The article is an interview, and to make the questions stand out from the answers the questions have been picked out in a bolder font.
The masthead of the article is a pull quote from the interview. It is a very enticing quote as it says ‘I shouldn’t say’ which automatically makes the reader want to read on to find out what she should/shouldn’t have said. It makes the article appear to be full of ‘juicy’ gossip which people look for when they are reading a magazine.
Across the double page a simple colour scheme of black and white is kept. This makes the article look clean and more arranged. The only thing that is picked out in a different colour is the word ‘exclusive’, which is highlighted in yellow. This makes people think that this is the ONLY place they will be able to read the article and therefore are more likely to buy the magazine if they want to find out what Katie has been saying as they will not find it anywhere else.
