Font Ideas

The font I intend to use needs to be one that stands out when the magazine is amongst others on the shelf. It needs to be eye-catching and simple to immediately attract attention and deflect the eye from other competition names.

This font is very eye-catching, the constant use of capitals means that the main text is easy to read. The font is dissimilar to any other magazine font currently used and therefore would stand out from competition. Contradicting this is the use of the 'blur' effect, this makes the title hard to read and therefore this font wouldn't be suitable for the use of a masthead on a magazine.

This font is very basic and therefore very easy to read. Again, the use of constant capitals ensure that the buyer finds the masthead easy to read in just a quick glance when choosing which magazine to purchase. On the other hand the font is simple and lacks the appeal of something different to attract the purchaser’s attention.

This font has a unique appeal, it appeals to both genders which would be suitable for my magazine. This font would be easy to read at a glance and hence hold the ability to draw attention to potential buyers. I feel that this font has an appeal to it that would differentiate it from other contesting magazines.

This is the font I will be using on my final magazine because I feel that it would fit in with all the aspects of which I want my magazine to meet. It attracts both a male and female target market and doesn’t look as though it is from a certain genre of music although, it does fit in with the main theme of R'n'B very well. I have never seen this font used on a magazine cover before and whichever colour I chose to use the font will still stand out clearly against most backgrounds.

I feel that this font would only appeal to a male target audience which wouldn’t be suitable for the magazine of which I am producing. It has a Army feel to it hence why I believe it would be aimed at the male audience. The font, however, does have an appeal to it that some basic fonts do not have as although it is block letters and very easy to read it has a different look with the gaps in between some of the areas of which the letter should join.

My initial thought on this font is that it isn’t bold enough to stand out to a potential buyer and therefore wouldn’t attract the right amount of buyers therefore I will not be using this font. Yet there is still something that is appealing about this font, I feel that it is the pure simplicity of the font and the fixed width that is used. This font could be difficult to read from a distance.

This font is unsuitable to be used as a masthead font. I feel that this is the case because it is not easy to read by all people and it would put people off if they see it at a quick glance. This font would need a darker colour to make it stand out and therefore wouldnt be suitable if lighter colours were to be used.
