NME is the shortened name for The New Musical Express, it is a popular music magazine which is published weekly and has been since 1952, and in 1970 it became the best selling magazine. NME was the first British paper to include a singles chart. The magazine is published in the UK by a company named ipc media which is owned by Time inc, Time inc is the leading publisher in the UK and US, and produces approximately 150 titles world wide. Time inc is owned by Time Warner which is the world’s second largest entertainment company.
IPC Media
Inter-Process Communication (IPC) is the UK’s leading consumer magazine publisher, they produce 85 magazines. IPC draw in over 26 million UK adults with their magazines and a further 20 million a month with online additions of magazines.
Time inc (who is the publishing department in Time Warner) own IPC. Time Warner was the merging of Time inc and Warner Communications. They now have major business in many areas including television, publishing and film.
IPC have five main audiences of which they address and these are: men, upmarket women, mass market woman, leisure and also specialist and television.
Examples of magazines they produce are; Rugby world, Nuts, Look, Now, TV times, Marie Claire, Ideal home and NME.
